What is Flyover Indies?

Flyover Indies is a community of indie game developers based in the Kansas City area. We champion one another through our individual game development journeys and celebrate new voices in the KC game dev scene. Our community is open to local game creators from all experience levels and backgrounds, including developers, designers, artists, musicians, and anyone with an interest in game development or games-adjacent fields. Flyover Indies supports game makers of all types of games: videogames, board games, card games, or whatever!

Flyover Indies strives to be a welcoming, safe, and accessible community for everyone, so all our events are free to attend and there are no membership fees to join.

Originally founded in 2014 under the name Crossroads Game Lab, in 2017 we adopted our current name, Flyover Indies.

Code of Conduct

Flyover Indies is committed to fostering an open and welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation. We expect members and participants to help us achieve this standard by adhering to the following standards for behavior in all Flyover Indies spaces, in-person and online.

  1. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Comments and language that target individuals or groups based on age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, socio-economic status, nationality, race, religion, or sexual orientation, or language that otherwise reinforces systems of oppression
    • Hostile, intimidating, or demeaning language or behavior
    • Unwelcome attention, following, or stalking
    • Inappropriate physical contact, ignoring personal boundaries
    • Photographing or recording others without permission
    • Encouraging any of the above behavior
  2. In short, be respectful.

In addition, Flyover Indies respects and abides by the policies of any venue which hosts our events. We expect participants in our community to conduct themselves according to these standards.

Reporting

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported by contacting us by using our contact form, emailing us directly at contact [at] flyoverindies [dot] party, or by direct messaging a Mentor or Organizer in our Discord. Complaints will be reviewed by Mentors and Organizers and will result in a response that is deemed necessary and appropriate to the circumstances, which may include expulsion from our community. We take very seriously the safety, well-being, and comfort of everyone in our community.
